 le prochain roman de Kristen Ashley et tome 7 de sa série "River Rain" que j'adore : il sortira le 18 septembre en anglais. Merci à Blue Box Press et 1001 Dark Nights et bien sûr, Netgalley (ça faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas regardé là-bas) "Finding the one" est consacrée à Blake, la soeur détestable d'Alexandra, l'héroïne du tome 3 mais qui se rachète à la fin. Elle a bien été trompée, ce qui lui a permis d'ouvrir enfin les yeux. Nul doute qu'elle trouvera le bonheur.

Toujours aussi bon (lecture VO)

 Vous le savez, j'ai mes chouchous parmi les autrices anglosaxonnes et Kristen Ashley en fait partie : j'adore particulièrement sa série "River Rain" qui comporte 6 romans et une novella (vous retrouverez les chroniques des 4 premiers mais j'en ai profité pour lire les deux qui me manquaient avant de m'attaquer au 6ème, je les chroniquerai dès que j'aurai un moment) Chacun d'entre eux pour se lire seul MAIS pour apprécier davantage, il vaut mieux suivre la série car il y a des fils conducteurs et à chaque fois, elle introduit de nouveaux personnages ou de nouvelles familles, ce qui va être encore le cas ici, ce qui nous laisse espérer de nombreux tomes à venir (seul regret, elle n'en publie qu'un par an, vu qu'elle écrit d'autres séries en parallèle, comme le fait Melissa Foster, par exemple.) 
Cette fois, nous découvrons l'histoire du père de Judge (le héros du tome 2) Jamie Oakley (car une autre particularité de l'autrice est qu'elle alterne les couples de la jeune génération et celles des plus âgés qui ont été mariés, divorcés, veufs, ont des enfants etc.)  et celle de Dora, la meilleure amie de Mika (l'héroïne du tome 4) 
Tous deux sont amis depuis des années et ont une vie bien remplie : Jamie s'est rapproché de son fils (adulte) après la mort de sa mère (lorsque tous deux ont appris la vérité sur la manière dont ils ont été manipulés par le père de Jamie) et sont devenus très proches. Il a une fille aussi (qui n'est pas sa fille biologique mais qu'il a élevée depuis l'âge de 5 ans lorsqu'il s'est mariée avec sa mère mais cette dernière est décédée d'un cancer, les laissant dévastés et les rapprochant encore plus) Mais Jamie comprend que la jeune femme a besoin de vivre sa vie et il demande à Nora de lui servir de cavalière lors des soirées où il doit se rendre (il est milliardaire) et cette dernière, divorcée depuis des années et très riche aussi, accepte. Elle a trois enfants tous mariés (introduction donc d'une nouvelle famille) et est très proche de la femme de Judge aussi, Chloé dans laquelle elle se reconnaît (elle est le mentor de Chloé)
Or, cette dernière, depuis le premier tome, a pour but de faire le bonheur des siens et comme tous voient que ces deux-là ne font rien, voire se sont fâchés après un baiser échangé qui a tout changé entre eux, elle et les siens décideny de s'en mêler et... évidemment, de nombreux événements et péripéties vont intervenir mettant à l'épreuve leur nouveau couple MAIS si vous êtes familier des romans de Kristen Ashley, vous savez qu'on n'a pas besoin de la fameuse "rupture" si française et que pour renforcer leur couple et asseoir leur avenir, ils vont affronter ensemble tout ce qui se place en travers de leur route, se comporter donc en adultes et en ressortir plus forts que jamais.

"Embracing the change" est sorti le 10 décembre chez Blue Box Press et je remercie l'autrice et Tanaka des 1001 Dark nights pour l'ARC et leur confiance (je chroniquerai le 5 et le 5.5 à l'occasion car je les ai adorés aussi, ils sont liés)

Mon avis : Comme cela faisait un petit moment que je n'avais lu la série (elle en sort un par an) j'ai repris depuis le début et dois-je dire que ces personnages vont me manquer?
J'ai tout de suite apprécié Jamie dès son apparition, car entre un père affreux, une première femme odieuse qui lui a pris son enfant avec l'aide de son père à lui (qui est une pourriture) et donc qu'il n'a pas vu grandi,  le fait qu'il ait élevé et aimé la fille de sa seconde femme décédée depuis et qu'il la considère comme la sienne, tout ceci montrait que c'était un type bien. Dans le tome 2, lorsqu'il découvre ce qu'a vécu son fils loin de lui, il montre un visage touchant, humain et il trouve très vite sa place dans les familles Swan, Pierce, Holloway et autres.
Dru et lui ont vécu très proches et lorsque leurs vies s'entrecroisent avec celles des autres, Jamie réalise que sa fille doit vivre sa vie  et Nora qu'il connaît depuis longtemps et qu'il a croisée à des moments importants de sa vie, accepte de l'aider et d'être sa compagne de soirée, ce qui va les rapprocher. Celle-ci a renoncé aux hommes depuis la trahison de son mari et père de ses enfants mais elle apprécie beaucoup Jamie qui la trouble beaucoup mais elle ne veut rien gâcher entre eux et ne veut pas, comme lui, souffrir de nouveau.
Mais ce baiser, un soir, échangé, change tout entre eux et ce qui couvait depuis des années, éclate et avec l'aide de leurs amis et familles, ils vont se trouver et ensemble affronter les épreuves qui les attendent : entre le père de Jamie qui veut se venger de lui depuis qu'il a réalisé le rôle qu'il a eu auprès de son fils et de sa première femme ; Paloma, une femme plus jeune qu'on retrouve dans de nombreux tomes et qui est vénale, les enfants de Nora qui ont leurs propres soucis et notamment le fils, l'ex qui veut reconquérir Nora, et même quelqu'un venu du passé (je ne vous dirai pas qui) et qui se fait menaçant : bref, entre l'histoire d'amour entre ces deux-là, leurs familles compliquées et leurs secrets et tout ce qui arrive qui est inattendu, on ne s'ennuie pas un seul instant. On retrouve aussi les couples des tomes passés, les grossesses, les mariages etc.
Bref, tout ce que j'adore.

Jamie est vraiment un type bien et Nora est l'archétype de la femme élevée dans l'élégance et la classe (c'est une Chloé en plus âgée) mais tous deux sont prêts à tout pour les leurs et à accueillir dans leur famille, les enfants de l'autre : chacun va prendre sous son aile ou venir en aide aux enfants de l'autre (ce sont tous des adultes, hein? mais dont la mère ou le père est absent ou quasi et il y a un manque)  ce qui donne des scènes touchantes, drôles, émouvantes et surtout pleines d'amour. 
Ils n'essaient pas de prendre la place qui n'est pas la leur mais sont heureux d'avoir cette complicité avec les enfants de l'autre et ces derniers sont heureux pour leurs parents.

Certains n'y verront que de bons sentiments mais ce n'est pas le cas : il y a le côté dur de la vie et oui, ils ont des valeurs et il est juste qu'ils aient droit, enfin, au bonheur.

J'adore cette série avec l'ombre de Corey qui continue de tirer les cartes de l'au-delà par l'intermédiaire de son homme de main qu'il considérait aussi comme un fils, Rhys et dont j'ai hâte d'avoir l'histoire. Avec les nouvelles révélations, les nouveaux personnages rencontrés dans ce tome, je me réjouis d'avance pour les futurs tomes à venir et ai hâte de savoir qui seront les prochains héros (sans doute, ceux de la nouvelle génération mais qui? il y en a tellement maintenant!) en tout cas, j'ai hâte.
C'est vraiment du très très bon Kristen Ashley comme on les aime. J'ai adoré aussi les titres de chapitres, qui sont tellement typiques de Nora car ils font référence au luxe et à la mode. La G. Force est si drôle que j'espère qu'on les retrouvera aussi.
Même si ce sont des personnages riches, ils sont très symboliques de notre époque.

Bref, j'adore, j'adore, j'adore cette série : j'aimerais  tant qu'elle soit traduite en français. Malheureusement, même si elle est excellente, elle est écrite à la 3ème personne, au passé (même s'il y a beaucoup de dialogues au présent et comme ce n'est ni de la dark, ni de la romantasy, trouverait-elle son public en France? je n'en suis pas sûre vu ce qui est lu chez nous. 
En tout cas, on passe à côté d'une excellente série qui ne cesse de se bonifier au fil des tomes. Bravo à Kristen Ashley!

“Who are you?” he asked, his blue eyes wide with fear.
“Tamlyn. I’m here to help you.”
He glanced at the door. “No one can help me.”
“I climbed this wall for you. We can go down together, or you can stay here and see how things turn out.”
He shook his head before she finished. “I don’t want to stay. But…”
“I know,” she said softly. “It’s scary. There’s a chance we won’t make it. But it’s a choice you alone can make.”
He lifted his chin, his slim shoulders squaring. “I’ll do it.”
“Good lad,” she said with a wink. “I’m going to get into place. I need you to climb out and onto my back. Be sure to close the window.”
He glanced down and then nodded jerkily.
“You can do this,” Tamlyn told him.
That seemed to bolster him. She flexed her fingers and hoped she would be able to maintain her grip with his added weight. Tamlyn held onto the sill and dropped down, using her arms to hold her until she got both her footholds.
“All right. Come on,” she urged.
The boy climbed out and scooted to the edge of the sill on one side of her. He closed the window behind him.
“Good,” she said with a nod. “Now, get onto my back. Use my body however you need to, but make sure you have a good hold on me. Just be careful not to choke me.”

“Thank you.” She jumped to her feet. “Come on. We’ve got to get out of the city.”
Those at Stonemore didn’t know who was rescuing the children, but each time she came to the city, there was something else that hadn’t been there before. This time it was the soldiers in the forest. She took the boy’s hand and turned to retrace her steps. The only way out was to go down, and that meant walking across the empty square again. She kept a tight hold of the boy while also making sure their steps were easy and casual. One of the nearby soldiers turned to look at them. He started toward them, but another soldier told him to forget them. No doubt those two would be in trouble shortly, but she couldn’t let her thoughts linger on that. By her reckoning, everyone who didn’t stop the sacrifices was complicit.

Une novella pour les fans... (lecture VO)

Kylie Scott est connue en France pour sa série des Stage Dive, publiée dans la défunte collection "&Moi" de chez  J-C Lattès et si les lecteurs français ont peut-être cru qu'elle était finie, eh bien ils ont eu tort puisque depuis le dernier tome en français, elle a publié plusieurs novellas (pas traduites, malheureusement) qui se situent dans la série et qui nous permettent de suivre nos musiciens préférés.

 La dernière "The rhythm method" est sortie le 9 novembre en VO, aux éditions 1001 Dark Knights et c'est une sorte de conclusion à la série (même si je ne le souhaite pas) puisque l'on revient au couple du premier tome David et Evie.
Si vous avez lu ce premier tome, vous savez qu'à la fin, nos jeunes mariés avaient décidé d'attendre avant d'avoir des enfants et de passer quelques années rien que tous les deux alors que leurs amis avaient tous fondé leur famille. A première vue, quand commence ce nouvel opus, ils sont toujours dans ce même état d'esprit mais une grossesse et une naissance inattendue va remettre en cause ce bel équilibre et l'amour qui les lie. En effet, la jeune femme fait un déni de grossesse et accouche à la grande surprise de tous d'un bébé! Autant vous dire que leur petite vie parfaite est remise en question et que tous deux vont réagir différemment à l'arrivée de ce bébé. A vous d'aller lire comment Evie et David réagissent et vous risquez d'être surpris.

Mon avis : J'ai retrouvé avec plaisir cette bande de musiciens que j'aime beaucoup et notamment Mal, mon chouchou depuis le départ et fidèle à lui-même. On retrouve nos couples et bien sûr, on continue à voir ce qu'ils deviennent, comment ils gèrent leurs carrières et leurs enfants. Mais l'arrivée de l'enfant d'Evie et de David va tout bouleverser, y compris leur groupe car c'est un événement inattendu et personne n'est prêt : ni eux en tant que couple, ni le groupe et la suite de leurs tournées. 

 Kylie Scott offre donc aux fans de la série une sorte de conclusion puisque nos héros étaient les premiers mais les seuls à ne pas avoir d'enfants et évidemment cette arrivée inattendue remet tout en cause et les amène inexorablement à se poser des tas de questions : Evie fait fasse au déni de grossesse et forcément, elle ne comprend pas comment elle a pu passer à côté de son état (et franchement, moi aussi mais bon, je ne suis pas médecin) : elle se remet donc en cause en tant que femme, mère, épouse... Bien sûr, ils ne voulaient pas de bébé à ce moment-là de l'histoire mais quand même...  bref, certains n'ont pas adhéré à ce début d'histoire et je comprends un peu pourquoi. Mais bon... passons! Mais je suis sûre que vous rirez alors que la situation n'est pas drôle à ce moment-là : je n'en dis pas plus. 

 Quant à David... que dire? si vous lisez en VO, passez votre chemin! Si vous ne lisez qu'en français et que vous voulez savoir, sachez que sa réaction m'a franchement laissée, là encore plus que dubitative : il aime sa femme mais réagit de manière ... grrrrrrrr ! bref, je l'aurais baffé! ok, son petit monde est bouleversé mais quand même... 

 Heureusement, tous deux ont des amis et des familles sur qui ils peuvent compter et qui les aideront, là encore, fidèles à eux-mêmes et j'ai été ravie de voir que Jimmy est toujours le type bien qu'il est devenu. Quant à Mal et Anne, sa pumpkin en VO (sa petite courge si vous préférez ^^) il est toujours fidèle à lui-même! et j'ai adoré les scènes avec son petit garçon de deux ans ^^ un mini-Mal quoi ^^ 

Et ce bébé me direz-vous? comment s'appelle-t-il? ou s'appelle-t-elle?  je ne vous dirai évidemment rien ^^ en revanche, je répondrai aux mails ou mp si vous me le demandez ^^ 

Bref, cette nouvelle m'a fait plaisir car les autres concernaient davantage des personnages secondaires même si l'on croisait nos héros. Là, on retourne vraiment au coeur de la série. Dommage qu'elle ait été si courte... enfin, c'est mieux que rien, hein? 

 Bref, si vous avez envie de savoir ce que sont devenus nos "Stage Dive", essayez l'anglais (vous connaissez l'univers) et allez lire cette nouvelle sympa, qui fait plaisir car c'est évident que c'est un cadeau pour les fans mais qui demeure bien trop courte (elle fait moins de 100 pages!)

Impossible female.

Damn, Stacey was stubborn.

And sure, Tracker liked that. To a point. Her stubbornness made it damned hard to protect her. As a DART agent, he was sure she was capable, just as she’d said. But just as he’d said, she was injured, and until he found out what they were dealing with, she had no business being out here.

It was his duty. Period.

As far as her deception—although he hesitated to label it that—he wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t truly believe that Jillian would be cruel in her anger. His reaction had more to do with his past experiences than his present.

And in the past, he could be tortured mercilessly for what had happened between he and Stacey. Now…now he was worried more about disappointing Jillian.

Jillian has basically freed you, but you keep putting the shackles back on.

Shackles? Stacey had no idea.

But it was something he’d have to deal with later. Right now, something was lurking in the forest.

He looked toward the heavens, measuring the darkness. The sky was clear and the moon was nearly full. Which meant a lot of light. Too much light. He’d be easily seen out in the open.

The trees and buildings threw silhouettes onto the fresh white snow, so he kept between drifts and in the shadows as best as he could and used his natural night vision to scan the forest. Pausing near the barn, he raised his head, seeking scents that might be out of place.

He caught a whiff of a deer somewhere nearby, but aside from that, nothing stood out. Still, the sense of a threat remained, like an oil slick on his skin.

He moved cautiously in the direction of the Harrowgate. The roads weren’t cleared yet, so anyone trying to get here would either have to use the gate, flash in, or hike for miles through deep snow and thick forest.

He really hoped no one had flashed in. Anyone capable of materializing into a location was powerful. Granted, anyone who could use a Harrowgate was a bigger threat than your average human, but the flashers were next-level dangerous. Fallen angel and hellhound-level dangerous.

As he approached the plowed path leading to the Harrowgate, the danger vibe intensified. Adrenaline spiked hot in his veins, bringing with it the high of the hunt. The only time he’d been happy in Sheoul was when there was a threat or when he was hunting something his masters wanted. The beast inside him craved the chase, and for a brief time, nothing else mattered. He could forget everything but the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of a good battle.

He’d given his all, and he’d earned a reputation among slave owners of being willing to face anything, do anything, go anywhere, because he was so brave.

His owners, who had bragged about his fierceness, were wrong. He hadn’t been brave. He just hadn’t cared whether he’d lived or died.
