Une romance sympa, comme toujours

 

Quand on attaque une romance de Vi Keeland, une des reines des romances américaines, on va passer un bon moment et c'est le cas avec son dernier titre traduit chez nous "Indiscrétion" publié en autoédition.
Le roman commence par la rencontre entre Dawson et Naomi qui se fait dans des conditions originales et dès le départ, on rit bien. Tous deux se rendent au mariage de leurs meilleurs amis mais malgré une attirance que l'on devine déjà, chacun reprend son chemin jusqu'à ce que le jeune homme, avocat, doive faire face à la furie de son ex (une garce de première) et qu'il doive trouver en urgence une assistante juridique. Or, Naomi qui a été avocate (je vous laisse découvrir pourquoi elle ne l'est plus) est envoyée pour postuler par Ben (le meilleur ami de Dawson) mais il hésite avant de réaliser qu'elle est sa meilleure chance : mais s'il devient son patron, comment résister à son attirance pour elle et jusqu'à présent, quand il a eu des histoires d'amour, ces dernières lui ont coûté cher. Quant à Naomi, elle a désespérément besoin de travailler et vu son passé, elle ne peut se permettre de perdre celui-ci en commençant une histoire d'amour. Alors, comment vont-ils trouver le bonheur ensemble? Vaincre leurs peurs de l'engagement? Quels secrets les dévorent? Des réponses à toutes ces questions et d'autres en lisant cette romance sympathique et réussie.  

"Indiscrétion" est sorti le 25 mars et je remercie Aurélie et l'autrice pour leur envoi en service presse.

Lui, c’est son patron. Elle, sa plus grande tentation. La première fois que j’ai rencontré Dawson Reed, on a fini au lit. Le problème, c’est que l’un comme l’autre, on ne le savait pas. Quand je me suis réveillée en pleine nuit et que j’ai découvert un inconnu à côté de moi, mon instinct a pris le dessus : j’ai attaqué l’intrus. Sauf que ce type n’était pas du tout un intrus. Dawson avait loué le même chalet que moi. Apparemment, il y avait eu une double réservation à cause d’un souci informatique. On s’est vite rendu compte qu’on était tous les deux ici pour assister au même mariage, et que Dawson n’était autre que le garçon d’honneur contre lequel on m’avait mise en garde. Il était aussi grand, ténébreux et incroyablement séduisant que mon amie l’avait décrit. D’ailleurs, elle avait vu juste en précisant : vous allez vous détester, tous les deux. Le lendemain matin, on a essayé de remettre un peu d’ordre dans ce chaos. Mais ce n’était pas aussi simple que prévu. C’était un week-end férié, et il n’y avait pas une seule chambre de libre à moins de soixante kilomètres. J’imagine qu’il y a pire que de devoir partager un chalet pendant tout un week-end avec un homme magnifique qu’on déteste… Comme, peut-être, découvrir qu’il est aussi… mon nouveau patron ??

Mon avis : Comme toujours la romance est top, jamais simple mais si vraie : tous deux ont un passé douloureux et ont des choses à régler aussi bien dans leur vie personnelle, que leur vie professionnelle et évidemment, ce seront des obstacles à leur histoire.

Dawson est un homme adorable et qui vous fera craquer : on sent qu'un poids lui pèse mais on ne sait pas ce que c'est. L'autrice fait le choix des flashbacks pour nous le faire découvrir progressivement. Il est sexy, brillant et on comprend pourquoi Noemie ne pouvait craquer que pour lui, malgré sa vie compliquée. En effet, bien qu'il sache que ce soit une mauvaise idée de l'employer, il ne peut résister au fait que la jeune femme ait des ennuis et surtout qu'elle l'attire. De plus, elle est brillante, bref, tout ce qu'il aime mais pourtant, il hésite et on sent bien que son passé en est la raison.

Naomie est une jeune femme qui était avocate avant qu'elle ne puisse plus l'être (encore une fois, je vous laisse découvrir son histoire) Elle m'a fait rire dès le début lorsqu'elle se défend contre Dawson (en même temps, ça se comprend) elle manie à la fois l'humour et une langue parfois acérée mais elle est tout sauf méchante. C'est une jeune femme brillante qui n'a pas mérité ce qui lui est arrivé et en plus, elle est généreuse et ferait tout pour sa soeur Frannie et ses enfants. C'est elle qui pousse un peu les choses et même si ce roman est un one-shot, j'aimerais beaucoup lire son histoire : elle a le droit au bonheur et a déjà eu sa dose. 

Bref, c'est une romance comme on les aime : intense entre les deux protagonistes mais aussi drôle et touchante et qui aborde des sujets qui ne sont pas faciles comme la maladie, le harcèlement et autre. Je n'en dis pas plus car je vous donnerai des indices sur ce qui nous est révélé progressivement. Il y a évidemment les personnages secondaires indispensables comme leurs amis ou Frannie mais aussi la garce de service. 

Je ne peux donc que vous la conseiller.

Horror streaks through me.

Then rage ignites; a supernova of it.

“Get off her!” I roar.

As I’m lunging towards him, he spins towards me.

His face is disguised by a latex mask, the same kind you see bank robbers wearing in the movies.

A lanyard bounces on his chest, but I’d bet anything it’s not real.

Eyes dark as coal meet mine. His gaze flickers with surprise. Then fear.

My fist is already flying towards him as he turns again, so it glances off the side of his head, rather than flush in the center of his face, as I intended.

The pillow falls to the floor.

“Don’t touch her,” I snarl. My voice promises death. And right now, I’d deliver it gladly.

Just as I’m about to hit him again, he grabs Sofia, lifting her like she weighs nothing, and flings her at me.

Fuck!

I instinctively catch her, clasping her limp body against mine.

And that fucker, who knew exactly what he was doing, takes the opening and rushes past me.

“Stop him!” I bellow. “Red alert!”

Somewhere down the hallway, I hear a startled shout. Metal clangs. Something heavy hits the ground.

I want to go after him. I could still catch him, I’m sure.

But Sofia.

Shit. Sofia.

Fuck. Is she still alive?

Lifting her high in my arms, I put my cheek close to her mouth. 

For a moment, there’s nothing.

The walls close in.

My pulse stutters.

No. She can’t be.

Then a whisper of breath brushes my cheek.

And she gasps.

Her eyes fly open, filled with confusion.

A beat later, recognition replaces it. Then she croaks, “Nico?”

The relief is so overwhelming, my legs go weak with it.

My arms tighten around her. “Yeah. It’s me.”
